reader of my blog, it\u2019s likely you know I\u2019m in Hawaii when this post hits the internet\u2026maybe even flying over the Pacific as you read.\u00a0 Anyway, it\u2019s been a few years since I went on a real vacation\u2026and the first one where I\u2019ll be eating healthy as a habit.\u00a0 I wonder how I\u2019ll do.\u00a0 Don\u2019t you?\u00a0 Will I give up the ghost for two weeks and just eat whatever I want?\u00a0 Will I be sacrificial and say no no no no?\u00a0 Doubt it\u2026on both counts.\u00a0 We\u2019ll just have to see.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" best to prepare for healthy eating as much ahead of time as I can.\u00a0 I\u2019ve packed daily pouches of all my medications and vitamins.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got two-weeks\u2019 worth of supplies of both my cholesterol lowering supplement drink, and my daily matcha energy tea drink.\u00a0 I\u2019ve packed my protein powder and a manual shaker cup.\u00a0 It\u2019s not a Nutribullet\u00ae, but it works.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been testing it for the last few days.\u00a0 It works fine as long as I shake it up enough.\u00a0 It even works with water, if I can\u2019t wrangle some almond milk\u2026more likely it will just be priced too exorbitantly for me. \u00a0Believe it or not, I\u2019m taking my own organic natural peanut butter. \u00a0It mixes well in the shaker cup, so I don\u2019t have to get bored with the plain vanilla flavor.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-25504\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nodietliving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/onetonchips.jpg?resize=194%2C300\" alt=\"one-ton chips\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\" loading=\"lazy\" snacker.\u00a0 Mostly, I just don\u2019t bring snacks into my house anymore.\u00a0 But I know when I get to Hawaii, that\u2019s a whole different story.\u00a0 When I begin to see things from my childhood or things I haven\u2019t tasted in years, I\u2019ll want to try everything.\u00a0 EVERYTHING!\u00a0 Been there\u2026done that.\u00a0 So, to help curb the chance of eating an entire bag of One-Ton Chips, I\u2019ve also packed some handmade beef jerky in my carry-on as well as in my suitcase for later.\u00a0 Hopefully that will help me say nay to the big red bag calling my name.\u00a0 I\u2019ve also got my stainless steel bottle of water.\u00a0 If I stay hydrated enough, I might not even want a snack.<\/p>\n<p>Since I can\u2019t really take fresh fruit or veggies to Hawaii, I will be doing some pre-planning to make sure I can pick up what I need when I get to Honolulu.\u00a0 I have plans with my sister to stop at the grocery store before we head over to our cousin\u2019s home.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have to stick to bananas when it comes to fruits.\u00a0 I can eat those easily enough, but most other fruits I\u2019d normally add to my protein shake in the morning.\u00a0 Since I\u2019m going manual with that, I won\u2019t be able to really blend the fruit up with my pathetic hand\/arm shaking method.\u00a0 Plus\u2026who knows how much berries will cost.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption-text\">My sister after they ate their fill a few years ago.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As far as other meals go, I know for a fact we\u2019ll be eating out a lot.\u00a0 Dining with family for birthdays or just to meet up.\u00a0 That will be the test for me, I think.\u00a0 I know what kind of choices I should make, and what kind of dishes I should avoid.\u00a0 However, I also know there are times when I will have little no chance at avoiding a \u201cbad\u201d choice.\u00a0 For example, my non travel-partner sister has already requested I visit Chinatown in Honolulu and eat a local item that you can only get in Hawaii\u2026oh, and take a picture of it.\u00a0\u00a0 So, I will go to Char Hung Sut on Pauahi St in downtown Honolulu and eat two mai tai soo for my sister.\u00a0 I\u2019m absolutely positive there will be pork hash (aka siu mai) and some manapua (aka char siu bao) in the box, too.<\/p>\n<p>For my Chinese food lovers out there, Mai Tai Soo is a bun that was developed by Chinese immigrants to Hawaii.\u00a0 It was also known as the Chop Suey Bun.\u00a0 It\u2019s usually a mixture of dried shrimp (ebi) and vegetables and sometimes a bit of char siu (bbq pork).\u00a0 It\u2019s the dough that makes it different from other buns or dumplings.\u00a0 It\u2019s not a bready wheat dough like that used in bao, nor is it a sticky rice dough like that used for har gow or its like.\u00a0 It\u2019s a flaky pastry dough with distinct layers.\u00a0 But it\u2019s not buttery and crumbly like a croissant.\u00a0 It\u2019s hard for me to describe.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry.\u00a0 Also, you won\u2019t find it in mainland China, in Taiwan or any dumpling house in any other major city around the world.\u00a0 You have to go to Honolulu, my friends. Just another reason for you to visit.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-25507\" Big Island, I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll be visiting a restaurant favorite or two.\u00a0 We\u2019ll probably hit up Hawaiian Style Caf\u00e9 for dinner one night, and probably Ken\u2019s House of Pancakes for breakfast.\u00a0 Ken\u2019s will be a danger zone for me because the one thing I always get there is Loco Moco\u2026a local Hawaiian concoction of white rice, a hamburger patty, an egg (or two) and lots of brown gravy!\u00a0 It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.<\/p>\n<p>Since I know there will be \u201ctraps\u201d waiting for me, I\u2019ll just have to avoid them or make good
